Diary and letters of Paul Turner Vaughan [manuscript], 1862-1864.

Vaughan, an officer in the 4th Alabama regiment, records in his 1863 diary his impressions of Richmond and prices, Petersburg, Franklin; marches; picket duty; weather; the capture of Hill's Point on the Nansemond by Federal troops; Gettysvburg campaign and battle; preaching and revival in camp; and Chickamauga. Letters, 1862-1864, mention Fredericksburg, snowball fights, skirmishing in East Tennessee, ill health and lack of shoes and clothes. There is a brief mention of being in Mr. Flanagan's hospital in Charlottesville, Va.
